Hangtown Through the Lens of John Meaney

John Meaney continues his Califonia adventure and sent us a selection of images from the Hongtown national.

Under mostly sunny skies and temperatures that hovered around 22ºC, Round 1 of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals offered top-notch battles for supremacy in both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

Round one of the Canadian Women’s West National Series kicked off this weekend in Nanaimo, BC. We had a great turnout with 25 riders at the gate, perfect weather and a lineup of spectators. Although Hailey Larson went 1-1 and claimed both holeshots it looks like she will have her work cut out for her this year. The new rookie on the line Schrader’s Yamaha TLD rider Kennedy Lutz was able to stay ahead for the first couple laps in Moto 1, but a couple little mistakes in corners left her a few seconds behind the reigning champ finishing with an impressive 2-3 for 3rd overall at her first Canadian Women’s National event.

The World Off Road Championship Racing Series (WORCS) and the Mid America Cross Country Racing Series (MAXC) are pleased to announce they are joining forces to create an expanded racing series called WORCS MAXC to create the first true National Racing Series. Starting in 2015, the WORCS series will have an East Coast (WORCS MAXC) and a West Coast Racing Series (The original WORCS Racing Series). This will give WORCS offices in  Utah, Washington and Indiana.

The first round of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Motocross Nationals is in the books. It was a beautiful sunny weekend in Nanaimo as riders adorned the pits for the first round of the Rockstar Energy Motocross Nationals. It was none other than Royal Distributing Fox KTM Racing Team rider Kaven Benoit who walked away with top honors in the MX2 Class. Kaven went 1-1, for 1st overall in Nanaimo, B.C. at the opening round of the Rockstar Energy Motocross Nationals. The MX1 class is stacked for 2014 with many riders joining the series from Canada and south of the border. As everyone in racing knows, you cannot win the series in the first round, but you sure can lose the championship. The first round of the series always proves to be quite difficult. Riders must get accustomed to new teams, motorcycles and the high level of competition. Both Tyler and Kevin are looking forward to the coming races. They mentioned that as long as they stay healthy and with a little bit of luck they believe they can walk away with great results and quite possibly the championship, come the final round in Walton, Ontario. Tyler Medaglia went 5-7, for 7th overall in the MX1 class in Nanaimo, B.C. Nanaimo remains to be one of the most challenging race tracks for Tyler, look for Tyler to improve his 7th place finish next round in Kamloops B.C..

MX And Off-Road, Volume 13, Issue 2

Inside this issue… Last year KTM made big news with the acquisition of Husqvarna and that left many off-road enthusiasts wondering what would happen to the historic brand. At this point it looks like the parent company will shut the doors on Husaberg and re-uniting them with Husqvarna under the Husky banner. We put the three brands together in a head-to-head-to-head shoot out to see where you should spend your money... What does it take to make a great helmet? We went to the Arai inspiration centre to find out. We learned plenty from the experience and it only reinforced the need for a good quality helmet... Zach Lewis has been making some noise in the Ontario off-road scene for a few years now, so we caught up with him to get an inside look into his life and his racing... We also continue to bring you our regular columnists Steve Matthes, Shelby Turner, Jared Stock and Victoria Hett… Plus much more. Click here or call (416) 962-7223 to subscribe.
