Chambly, Qc. – KTM Red Bull Thor Factory racer Cole Thompson has clinched the first ever Canadian Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Championship. After a season of consistent podium finishes across all three Triple Crown disciplines, Thompson delivered in the final round aboard his championship proven KTM RED BULL THOR Factory Racing 450 SX-F.
Early in the year, Cole became the MX1 Arenacross Pro Champion, finished second in the MX1 Motocross Pro Championship, and with his performance in Hamilton, secured the MX1 Supercross Pro Championship and ultimately the Triple Crown Championship. Thompson’s determination and consistency played a major role in his Triple Crown victory.
In the MX2 Pro Class, Tanner Ward ripped the holeshot in the main, just like what he did in his heat race. His lead was short-lived as the number three of Maffenbeier executed a quick pass after Tanner made a first lap mistake. Ward and Maffenbeier started pulling away from the field with a seven second lead. Ward latched on to the number three’s rear fender and started reeling in the leader near the closing laps of the main. At the finish line, Ward secured his first SX podium of the season with a second place. In his rookie year, Tanner Ward has managed to podium in Arenacross, Motocross, and now Supercross which is a solid way to finish the 2018 season.
During the big race of the night in the MX1 Pro Class, Cole Thompson only needed to complete one lap to secure the Championship. After nailing the holeshot in his heat race, Thompson took a different line into the first turn, settling into fourth at the end of the first lap. Thompson, with a veteran move, let the three leaders battle while watching comfortably from fourth. Then after mistakes by Goerke and Alessi, Thompson found himself in second. That was all the motivation he needed to put his head down and start closing the gap on Nicoletti. A few laps past the halfway point, Thompson made his move and battled with Nicoletti for a few corners to eventually secure first place. As Thompson crossed the finish line he enjoyed a two second lead over Nicoletti, but more importantly, took home the Supercross Championship and the big prize…the $100,000 Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Championship.
Cole Thompson – KTM RED BULL THOR Factory MX1 Racer: “When I crossed that finish line the emotions really hit me. It was the point of getting to that finish line though; the countless practice laps to showing up every weekend and battling some of the best in Canada and the US. Tonight proved it. It wasn’t easy but somehow, someway, I found a way to get it done. I just can’t thank my team enough. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have this job and be able to go out there and do what I do.”
Jean Sebastian Roy – KTM RED BULL THOR Factory Racing Team Manager: “Cole has been gaining confidence and speed all season long. This Triple Crown Championship is the end result of hard work, determination, and an amazing effort by the team. Cole has proven he has what it takes to be the Champion and we look forward to supporting Cole in 2019 when he defends the title.”

Chambly, Qc. – KTM REDBULL THOR CANADA Factory racer Cole Thompson landed on the top step of the podium in Quebec City moving him one step closer to the Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Championship. Working his way thru the pack, Thompson found himself battling for the win in the closing laps of the race and take the win aboard his factory prepped KTM 450 SX-F.
Thompson’s night started with the Ontario native making quick work in his heat race, taking the lead in the first lap and winning by just over 7.000sec. In the main, Thompson got a good jump off the line, but found himself on the ground before the first turn. In spectacular fashion, Cole put his head down and started his charge to the front. In the last corner, Thompson executed a last ditch maneuver to pass Facciotti which resulted in both racers crashing as they crossed the finish line. When the dust settled, Thompson edged out Facciotti by a margin of only 0.048.
Tanner Ward also had a good night. With a great jump in the main, he positioned himself nicely for a podium finish. A few early mistakes shuffled him back and the damage was done. Ward ultimately closed the night with a 4th place.
Cole Thompson: “After crashing in the first turn, I knew I needed to get to the front. With the race coming to an end, I tried to pass Colton in the last corner. When I saw he wasn’t letting off, I tried to shut off the throttle before the face of the jump but we both crashed. Obviously I wasn’t trying to take Colton out and it wasn’t my intention to take anyone down.”
Jean Sebastian Roy – KTM RED BULL THOR CANADA Team Manger: “Cole rode a great race tonight. Coming thru the pack from last place to take the win shows his commitment to this Triple Crown Championship. We’ll take a look at our performance from the past weekend and move forward with the other teams to the final round in Hamilton.”
Tanner Ward: “We had a good weekend and I was happy with my speed and starts. I’m still gaining experience and every time I go out I’m learning something new. We’re definitely getting close to a podium finish each time.”

Moncton, NB – The KTM Red Bull Thor Racing Team traveled to the Maritimes for the 7th round of the Jetwerx MX Tour series. After two rounds at highly sandy tracks, the harder red dirt of the Riverglade MX track was the host of some great racing by the three KTM riders. Cole Thompson won the 450 overall, Kaven Benoit won a 450 moto and Tanner Ward made some impressive comebacks.
Cole Thompson had an amazing weekend, winning the 450 class overall and improving to 2nd place in the MX Tour championship. After a great start in the 1st moto, Cole rode almost the entire moto in 2nd position. After a few mistakes on the last laps, the #16 got the checkered flag in 4th. Thompson started Moto 2 in the front again, running 2nd on lap 1. Around halfway, Cole found his groove and started applying pressure for the lead. He crossed the finish line 0.5 sec behind his teammate, earning him a 4-2 result, but most importantly giving him his first overall win of the 2018 season.

“We keep improving every weekend and it felt great to be back on top. I’m feeling more and more confident every round and I think my results are now showing it. It is a tight championship and I’m happy with where I’m standing right now. I’m definitely looking forward to the next two rounds. ”
Kaven Benoit started his day by qualifying in the top 3. Unfortunately, Benoit didn’t get a great start to the first moto and after a mistake at halfway, the #26 had to settle for 7th. Kaven was ready to redeem himself and he did so by grabbing the Moto 2 holeshot and impressively leading the race wire to wire. It was a really tight overall finish for the top 5 450 riders and Kaven’s 7-1 results gave him a 5th position overall, only 1 point away from winning the day.

“There was a lot of “what if” that went through my mind after I saw the final overall results. No matter what, I’m happy I was able to grab one more moto win. With the championship standing being what it is right now, I’m really looking forward to my hometown race next weekend.”
Tanner Ward put down some impressive lap times in the morning, qualifying 4th in the highly competitive 250 class.Unfortunately for Ward, his two races were filled with ups and downs. On the up side, both motos debuted with a great start from the young Ontarian rider, but then Ward also went down in the first lap in both motos, leaving him at the complete end of the pack. Tanner had to play catch-up all day and ended 1 position shy from the top 10, in 11th.

“I will use this weekend as a learning curve. On the positive side, I gained a lot of passing experience and I’m ready for Deschambault, which is one of my favorite tracks on the circuit.”
